Fort Charles Félix

Beware, romance! The charm of the ruins and the beauty of the site are bound to inspire you.

The ruins of this romantic fort, destroyed by Napoleon III when Savoie became part of France in 1860, invite you to meditate.
The fort can be admired from the outside, as the instability of the monument makes it dangerous to visit.

The Esseillon barrier was built in the early 19th century to guard against French invasion. The five Sardinian forts that make up the barrier are named after the sovereigns of the Savoy family. Built according to Montalembert's architectural principles, they are unique in France.
