Col du Pré, Cormet de Roselend: the killer sequence!

22 July 2025

A key passage for the Tour de France 2025

Before the final ascent to La Plagne, the riders of the 19ᵉ stage of the Tour de France will have to overcome a sequence as sumptuous as it is formidable : the Col du Pré (1748 m), followed by the Cormet de Roselend (1968 m), two major passes on Route des Grandes Alpes®. From Beaufort, the route gets off to a gentle start, but from Arêches onwards, the slope steepens considerably. The twists and turns of the Col du Pré, on a balcony above the Roselend dam, offer a succession of steep gradients and spectacular views. A demanding pass, often underestimated.

After a short descent towards the dam and Lake Roselend, from the Col du Méraillet, riders will resume the ascent towards the more rolling Cormet de Roselend, in the heart of a grandiose Alpine setting.

This Beaufortain diptych totals over 1,300 m of cumulative positive vertical drop and could well blow the peloton away with 50 km to go. Climbers will have every interest in showing off, team-mates in not flinching.

To dive into the details of these two exceptional passes:

A dream setting, a sequence to break legs or rankings. To be relived handlebar in hand, on Route des Grandes Alpes®.
