Haut-Rhône

From the banks of the Rhône to the Grand-Colombier

Summary

À Vélo

Whether in the mountains, in the valley, touring along the ViaRhôna or on a day trip, the Haut-Rhône is a paradise for all cyclists. The passes around the valley, and in particular the Col du Grand-Colombier (1534 m), offer demanding climbs sometimes in excess of 20%, popular with sportsmen and Tour de France racers.

Mountain biking

With more than 10 loops or downhill itineraries located on either side of the Rhône in our Ain and Haute-Savoie communes, mountain bikers of all levels will find our Haut-Rhône territory an ideal playground for their practice. Note that the routes offered on the Grand-Colombier massif are part of "L'Espace VTT Ain - La Forestiere". This unique FFC-labeled area offers over 100 routes on 1,500 km of trails throughout the Ain mountains, for mountain biking, VTTAE, Gravel and Enduro.

En Gravel ou VTC

The Haut-Rhône didn't wait for the advent of Gravel to offer "quiet" itineraries on small roads and rural paths, rideable by VTC and VTCAE. Our 12 geo-guided loops downloadable from the Mhykes app have been created to irrigate our territory from the ViaRhôna, which crosses it from north to south.

You'll be able to discover the hidden treasures of this Haute-Savoie part of the Haut-Rhône: Château de Clermont, village and ruin of Château de Chaumont, Génissiat dam, the wild Rhône of the Fort l'écluse or Pyrimont defile, Seyssel and Frangy vineyards, apple orchards and other rural landscapes in this land of milk and cheese production.

Our grands cols

We may not be at the foot of the Galibier or the Iseran, but the passes that surround the Haut-Rhône valley have nothing to be ashamed of when compared with the greatest Alpine passes. The best-known of these is undoubtedly the Col du Grand-Colombier, which rises to an altitude of 1,534 meters. Considered one of France's most challenging cycling passes, its ascent appeals not only to top sportsmen and women, but also to Tour de France organizers, who have scheduled it several times on the route of the Grande Boucle.

Bike loop suggestions

Stay idea: From Annemasse to Seyssel on the P'tites Routes du Soleil Gravel - 2 days through the Payssages of the Haut-Savoyard Pre-Alps to challenge the mythical Salève or ride through the verdant countryside at the foot of the Vuache.

ViaRhôna

Take you from the shores of Lake Geneva to the beaches of the Mediterranean by bike, following the Rhône for more than 815 km, that's the ambition of the ViaRhôna. The route along the Upper Rhône between Geneva and Lyon is probably the most finalized of the entire ViaRhôna.
