Jean-Christophe, from mountain bike to road bike

They-they crossed the Alps and they-they tell...

Would you like to introduce yourself?

I'm 45 years old, an engineer, originally a mountain biker, I gradually turned to the road to supplement my winter training. It's become a passion, a way of discovering places and regions I don't know, but also of climbing passes, particularly in the Pyrenees, which are particularly close to my heart.

What motivated you to embark on a touring bike trip in the Alps?

After my crossing of the Pyrenees in 2021, I wanted to discover the Alps, which I only knew from images of the Tour de France. To discover these different terroirs, these mythical passes, these landscapes through this challenge of a North/South crossing.

Which route did you take and why?

I did the classic Route des Grandes Alpes®, in 7 days. For someone unfamiliar with the Alps, the Grande Route des Alpes website is very well done. It offers complete itineraries that take you through all the départements and different terroirs, climbing most of the best-known passes and passing through stopover towns.

Ane anecdote to share?

Touched by the state of the Vésubie valley which is still disfigured by flooding, seeing it on TV is one thing, seeing it in real life another....
