The Vallée de l’Ubaye Serre-Ponçon, in the département (county) of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, at the heart of France’s Southern Alps, features in the middle of its name the river that runs through it. Located on the edge of the Mercantour National Park, along the Route des Grandes Alpes and stretching to the banks of Serre-Ponçon Lake, the Ubaye Valley provides many activities. In summer, white-water sports, hiking, cycling, gliding and golf appeal to those after thrilling sports or serenity in spacious surrounds. In winter, the Ubaye Valley offers the ski resorts of Pra-Loup, Sauze Super-Sauze and Sainte-Anne-la-Condamine, as well as tiny Larche, with just three ski lifts, ideal for children taking to the slopes for the first time.
