A well-established cycling tradition

Morzine-Avoriaz has built up its reputation as a cycling destination over the last 40 years and more, thanks to hosting many cycling events, including the Critérium du Dauphiné and Tour de l'Avenir. Above all, it has served as a Tour de France stage town 21 times between 1975 and 2021!

Joux Plane, la Ramaz

The cycle routes on offer from Morzine are numerous and varied. Within a 30km to 40km radius around Morzine, there are many passes to take on: the famed passes at Joux Plane and the climb to Avoriaz, tackled on so many occasions during the Tour de France, Joux Verte, Le Corbier, Le Grand Taillet, L’Encrenaz, La Ramaz, Le Pas de Morgins and the Col de Bassachaux pass in the Abondance Valley so close by, or then the Col de Pierre Carrée pass…

Challenges for a wider cycling public

Morzine is also dedicated to developing cycling for a wider public, in part through organising the annual summer Morzine-Avoriaz cycle climb. The Morzine-Haut Chablais Cyclosportive race attracts up to 800 participants every year. As to the initiative Adopte 1 Col, it enables cyclists to climb to the Col de Joux Plane across a morning on which the road is completely closed to motorized vehicles.

25 passes within a radius of less than 50 kilometres!

The Cols de la Vallée Verte are further passes within cyclists’ reach, as are those of the Aravis Range a bit further away (Colombière, Romme, Mont Saxonnex, Solaison, Aravis and Croix Fry). In total, there are 25 passes under 50km from Morzine’s village centre! The routes to all of them are specifically signposted for cyclists.

Accueil Vélo accreditation

Numerous types of high-quality accommodation, specific facilities for cyclists, a wide variety of available activities, along with expert guides, all mean that keen cyclists are exceptionally well catered for here. In fact, the ski resort has been awarded Accueil Vélo accreditation in recognition of the quality and know-how of all it services for cyclists.
