They-they crossed the Alps and they-they tell...
Jean-Phi, can you introduce yourself?
Jean-Phi, 56, I discovered solo bike touring 3 years ago. Incredible memories, magnificent landscapes and unforgettable encounters.... without forgetting a few hassles of course!
What motivated you to embark on a cycling trip in the Alps?
After traveling on rather quiet routes in terms of elevation gain, I was keen to see the word "pass" written along the roads. I was served on this P'tites Routes du Soleil® route!
Second motivation: to leave home.
Which route did you take and why?
P'tites Routes du Soleil®
Because I'd already done the chemins du soleil with some lovely memories
Because I wanted to leave home
Because the mountains are beautiful!!
How did you organize your trip?
I had just done the Voie Bleue (Luxembourg-Lyon), which I followed up with the Viarhona before heading for the Giens peninsula... I wanted to continue in light bikepacking mode: my tent in front, my comforter in the frame, my mattress on my saddlebag... and the minimum of clothes
To sleep, campsites or natural areas (the shower was still sought after)
Your best and worst memories?
The best, hard to choose. The Verdon probably
The worst... the 5 degrees of St André les Alpes in the morning with an unsuitable duvet
Your trifecta of passes?
Col de Rossas(the first one I didn't know)
Col du Corobin (the quietest)
Col du Défens(the most Provençal)
Ane anecdote to share?
The grocery store in Soleilhas. You have to stop there. Drink a coffee. Soak up village life. Just listening to the grocer will make you travel even more!
